B. Allan Mackie

In North American self-builder circles B. Allan Mackie almost has mythological status.

The log house builder has tirelessly built large and small and passed on his self-taught experience and the knowledge he got as a boy and a young man by following the log building of that time.

Allan was born in Battleford, Saskatchewan in 1925.  Allan's grandfather was Francis Hector Mackie (see above).  As a child Allan wanted to be a cowboy, however his attention was also caught by the stocky and tanned log builders.  Later he worked as a carpenter and forest ranger before finishing University.   At the time he had turned forty and had started teaching courses in log building.

Today Allan continues to travel all over the world to teach course participants about the mysteries and techniques of log building.   He has taught courses in Scandinavia, Germany, Korea and Japan.

His building is spread all over the globe and one of the most remarkable ones is a Japanese railway station made of full timber.

B. Allan Mackie's books include following titles:

The Owner-Built Log House
Building with Logs
Building with Logs in New Zealand
Log House Plans
Notches of All Kinds
